About Duo Obax
Duo Obax offer an aesthetically refreshing program of Australian works by both established and up-and-coming composers. Among their commissions, a substantial new work, “and other lines” by Luke Severn, was awarded a Fresh Start grant in 2020, and recorded by Joseph, Briana, and pianist Yasmin Rowe for the ABC in February 2021. Duo Obax’s unique combination of sounds is expressive and dynamic, the perfect fit for reflecting the Australian aesthetic.
Duo Obax is a unique soundscape featuring husband-and-wife team Briana Leaman and Joseph Lallo. A native of South Carolina, Briana has performed with orchestras in the U.S., France, and Australia including the Greenville and Charleston Symphony Orchestras, the Orchestre Philharmonique de
Strasbourg, the Opéra National du Rhin, and Orchestra Victoria. Briana teaches and performs in Melbourne where she also serves as the Victorian state representative of the Australasian Double Reed Society. Briana will complete her PhD in Music Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 2023 and is proud to be a Rigoutat artist. Joseph is Lecturer of Saxophone at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and is an avid solo and chamber musician, performing frequently with cellist Yelian He and pianist Yasmin Rowe as Collide. Joseph is a Selmer and D’Addario artist.
As a duo, Briana and Joseph have performed in Melbourne and Adelaide in Australia, and at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore and Vanderbilt University and the University of South Carolina in the United States.
